Access to Machu Picchu will be included in Peru’s virtual ticket sales platform

The main objective is to allow visitors to purchase tickets to enter various monuments and museums in Peru from anywhere in the world

The sale of tickets for the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu will be included in the new virtual platform that is being implemented to enter archaeological sites and museums in Peru, the Ministry of Culture reported this Friday.

The platform “is already in full swing” with the sale of virtual tickets to access the Kuelap fortress, in the north of the country, said Minister Leslie Urteaga, in statements cited in an official note.

He added that the same system will begin to be tested for entry to Machu Picchu and other sites “for the second half of October.”

The ministry noted, in this regard, that it is already “working on planning and adjustments” for the sale of tickets to the famous archaeological site so that national and foreign tourists can schedule their visits in advance.

In that sense, he assured that the sale of tickets to visit Kuelap “has been working successfully, quickly, easily and guaranteed”, through a “simple and accessible” process that must be followed after registering on an electronic portal.

The main objective is to allow visitors to purchase tickets to enter various monuments and museums in the country from anywhere in the world.

“In this way, we seek to promote orderly tourism that is respectful of the cultural legacy of Peru,” he remarked before remembering that Machu Picchu has a maximum daily capacity of 4,044 visitors.

Urteaga appeared last week before the Congressional Budget Commission, where he detailed the projects that his office will develop during 2024, after ensuring that this year 95% of the budget will be executed.

The minister reported that of the 737 million soles (191.9 million dollars) allocated for 2024, it is planned to allocate 190.4 million soles to finance the execution of 58 projects in historical heritage, real estate, museums, infrastructure, cultural dissemination, libraries, and institutional headquarters.
